New Housing Opportunity and Upcoming Informational Meeting

Posted by Pam Blanton on August 14, 2012

For the last year, Partners4Housing has been developing a new housing model for people with disabilities that involves families “clustering” together to share housing and coordinated services.  We’ve heard from many families who are concerned about affordable housing, quality caregivers, personal safety, and loneliness and isolation.  Finding compatible roommates is a huge challenge.  And, some families feel that it would be more desirable for their adult child to live NEAR their friends and peers, but not necessarily WITH them.  Most families believe that sharing coordinated services is more economically viable and sustainable for the long term.

Partners4Housing is developing a system for “matching” people with disabilities and their families who are interested in finding roommates and forming partnerships to create successful housing solutions.

In our housing model, a group of six to eight families join together in a “cluster” to lease or buy four or five units in an existing apartment or condominium complex.  The families commit to working together to identify needed services, select care providers, and collaborate to make the social relationships and activities successful.  The kinds of services that families desire include care providing, meal preparation, shopping, medication management, planning social and recreational activities, transportation, representative payee services, and benefits coordination, for example.

In addition to matching roommates and their families and providing the housing expertise, Partners4Housing will coordinate a variety of in-home services for people with disabilities.  Our team has deep roots in the disability community, with 44 years of combined experience and affiliations with housing and service providers.   We are able to provide families with the education and resource information they need to develop solutions that work for their loved one with a disability.

If your adult child is ready to move in 2013 and you are interested in sharing housing and coordinated services, we invite you to learn more about this new housing opportunity!  Please join us a free informational meeting:
